The situation on the ground remains extremely tense with ongoing Israeli attacks in Jenine, exacerbating an already stifling economic situation, leading to an increase in societal violence. Mayssoun Dawoud explains:

These past weeks, due to religious holidays and family gatherings, we have observed many arbitrary arrests. We are also seeing an increase in domestic violence in households due to the repercussions of the war.

The Jenine Observatory continues to organize activities to support the community. Currently, summer camps are being set up for the women and children of Jenine, hosting 80 children today. Mayssoun Dawoud specifies:

During these camps, we observe that children are becoming increasingly violent towards each other due to their post-traumatic stress from the war.

Despite these challenges, the implementation of the shelter for women victims of violence is progressing.

We are going to have a meeting with the Ministry of Social Affairs to finalize the last details. The bathrooms are ready, and the external cameras will be installed to secure this place. Only the installation of the beds and wardrobes remains. We have already approached the police services to have a policewoman available 24/7, and three social workers are already designated to work with the beneficiaries of the center.

Despite this difficult period, the efforts of the Jenine Observatory are recognized by the residents. Mayssoun Dawoud emphasizes:

We see that our actions are increasingly necessary, and the Jenine Observatory is identified as a resource center for women victims of violence.

Finally, the Observatory continues to benefit from the support of the Secours populaire français of Seine-Saint-Denis, enabling the creation of a new sanitary kit entitled “Dignity Kit for Women.”
