The new tools to fight violence against women: Discover the MOOC and the thematic sheets
Given the diversity of forms of violence against women, it is essential to provide concrete and accessible tools to support local actors in their daily struggle. The Observatory on violence against women in Seine Saint Denis and the Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) have worked together to develop a set of resources designed to strengthen the capacities of local governments and their partners.
The new tools developed include six thematic fact sheets and an interactive MOOC, addressing the following issues:
– Violence against women in the public space: to understand the mechanisms of harassment and insecurity in public places and propose appropriate responses.
– Domestic violence: with strategies for identifying, preventing and supporting victims in a local context.
– Sexual violence: focusing on prevention and care policies.
– Female genital mutilation: to raise awareness and take action against these harmful traditional practices through local and global initiatives.
– Forced marriages: with tools to detect and prevent these often invisible situations.
– Feminicide: providing ways of documenting, preventing and raising awareness of this global problem.
Finally, the MOOC complements these fact sheets by offering a comprehensive overview of international measures to prevent violence against women. It explores local policies, innovative initiatives and international collaboration, in order to provide a global vision and practical solutions to protect women victims of violence.
